EMSSA ePoCUS – Basic Course 03 December 2021 George (Fully booked)
Thank you for booking the Core Emergency Point of Care Ultrasound (ePoCUS) course with EMSSA.
EMSSA has been responsible for ePoCUS training, credentialing and its clinical governance in South Africa for the past 12 years and has certified Core ePoCUS proficiency in well over 100 healthcare providers to date, and remains the sole credentialing body for emergency PoCUS in the country.
The core ePoCUS curriculum focuses on ultrasound skills that are deemed essential for all health care providers working in an emergency setting or dealing with emergencies on a regular basis , and includes 6 core applications to be covered in the course:
- Technical skills such as image acquisition and optimisation.
- Extended Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma (eFAST).
- Focused abdominal aorta ultrasound.
- Basic cardiac ultrasound, including a focused DVT assessement.
- Basic lung ultrasound.
- Ultrasound-guided vascular access.
All course content will be covered on the day, with a focus on bedside, hands on practical ultrasound training, using a variety of ultrasound machines and ultrasound patient models.
A group of highly experienced PoCUS providers will be there to guide you and help gain your confidence as you begin your ePoCUS journey.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided on the day (please inform us in advance if you have any specific dietary requirements).

Please note that due to the current COVID pandemic, we will be following strict COVID-19 protocols guided by the EMSSA COVID Standard Operating Procedure document as well as National Department of Health guidelines in order to ensure the safety of all involved.
If you are ill on the day or have recently been exposed to a confirmed COVID+ patient without wearing appropriate PPE, postponing this course and rescheduling for another date will be required, as screening will take place for ALL individuals involved in the course (instructors, course attendees and patient models).
